The Beautiful Bridegroom, a one-act comic opera for six women, has been hailed as a “masterpiece” by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Del Tredici. Based on an 18th-century play by Ludvig Holberg, this Mozart-style pastiche tells the story of a widow who has been searching for a young husband – not for her two marriageable daughters, but for herself. Some may remember the UA Opera Theatre’s first production of this piece in 2012, back when we were producing operas in the choral/opera room. Those were the days!!
